Types of Emails You Receive from Prolific
Prolific sends several types of emails to participants:
Study notifications – alerts when new studies matching your profile are available
Payment confirmations – notifications when you've been approved and paid for a study
Bonus payments – alerts when researchers award you additional payment (including adjustment payments for underpaying studies)
Submission updates – notifications about approvals or rejections of your study submissions
Researcher messages – direct communications from researchers about studies you've participated in
Marketing emails – promotional content and platform updates
Account security notifications – important information about your account
Managing Study Notification Emails
To turn off or manage email notifications for new studies:
Log in to your Prolific account at prolific.com
Click on Preferences in your account menu
Look for the email notifications setting
Toggle email notifications on or off according to your preference
Note: Even if you turn off email notifications, you can still participate in studies by checking the Prolific website directly or using the Prolific Assistant browser extension for instant notifications.
Unsubscribing from Marketing Emails
If you're receiving promotional or marketing communications from Prolific:
Open any marketing email from Prolific
Scroll to the bottom of the email
Click the Unsubscribe link
Follow the prompts to confirm your unsubscribe request
This will remove you from marketing communications while still allowing you to receive important account-related emails.
Managing Payment and Submission Notification Emails
Emails about approvals, screen outs, rejections, and bonus payments are transactional notifications related to your earnings and account activity. These emails help you:
Receive bonus payments (including automatic adjustment payments when studies underpay)
Know if a submission has been approved, screened out or rejected (and the reason why)
Stay informed about your account balance
Important: These transactional emails are typically essential account notifications and contain important information about your earnings and submissions. You may unsubscribe from these emails, but please keep in mind that vital correspondence may be missed as a result.
What Emails Will I Still Receive?
Even after adjusting your preferences, you may still receive:
Important account security notifications
Cashout confirmation emails
Direct messages from researchers (if you've participated in their studies)
Critical platform updates
How can I unsubscribe from all emails?
If you wish to completely unsubscribe from all emails from Prolific, you can do this in two ways:
At the bottom of any email you've received from Prolific, click the 'unsubscribe all' button to unsubscribe from all emails
Reach out to our friendly support team, using the help widget in the bottom right-hand corner.
