How to share feedback on a study

Your feedback helps researchers run better studies and helps Prolific keep the platform safe. Whether you've just finished a study, decided it's not for you, or spotted something that doesn't feel right, you can let us know in just a few taps.

Your feedback is still anonymous by default. But now, you can also choose to share your Prolific ID, so a researcher can get in touch to fix a technical issue or sort out a problem like being screened out incorrectly.

Rating your experience after a study

Once you submit a study, you'll land on a confirmation screen with a short section called Tell us about your experience.

Here, you'll rate a few aspects of the study on a scale of one to five, such as:

  • How easy or difficult the task was

  • How clear the instructions were

  • How fair the reward felt for the time and effort involved

This step only takes a few seconds and gives researchers a quick, honest sense of how the study went.

Adding more detail (optional)

Want to share more? Select Share more feedback (recommended) to open a short form. Here, you can:

  • Flag specific issues with the study, like an unclear description, being screened out, or a technical problem

  • Add other reasons, like no longer being interested in the topic

  • Include a short written note with more detail

You can also choose to share your participant ID with the researcher for any of these feedback options. This lets them contact you directly if they'd like to follow up. Sharing your ID is always optional, and the rest of your feedback stays anonymous.

Select Submit feedback when you're done. You'll get a confirmation once we receive your feedback.

If a study isn't right for you

Sometimes a study isn't a good fit, and that's okay. From your dashboard, select Not interested on any study you'd rather skip.

You'll be asked why, with options like:

  • Low reward for time and effort

  • Not relevant for me

  • Not interested in this type of topic or study

  • Too many similar studies from the same researcher

  • Other

You can also add an optional title for more context. This feedback is always anonymous, and adding a reason is entirely optional. Select Yes, dismiss study to confirm, and the study will disappear from your dashboard.

Reporting a study to Prolific

If something about a study feels off, such as a suspicious request for personal information, a description that doesn't match the actual task, or exposure to sensitive content that wasn't disclosed, select Report study instead.

You'll be asked to choose what happened:

  • Suspicious information request

  • Study not as described or problematic

  • Unauthorized personal data collection

  • Undisclosed sensitive or explicit content

  • Other

Add any extra detail in the optional title field, then select Report study to send it. Reports go straight to Prolific and are never shared with the researcher, so you can report with confidence. You'll see a confirmation once we've received it, and our team will look into it.

Blocking a researcher

If you'd rather not see studies from a particular researcher again, select Block researcher from the study page. You won't see their studies on your dashboard going forward.

Where your feedback goes: how it's used

Not all feedback goes to the same place, so here's a quick breakdown:

  • Post-study ratings and written feedback: shared with the researcher, so they can improve the study for future participants

  • Dismiss feedback: shared anonymously with the researcher

  • Reports: sent only to Prolific, and never shared with the researcher

Researchers can see the ratings, categories, and written comments you submit, and use them to fix technical issues, clarify instructions, adjust screening criteria, or reconsider a reward. If you've agreed to share your participant ID, a researcher can also reach out to you directly to follow up.

Reports work differently. Prolific's team reviews every report and takes action where needed, from following up with the researcher to removing a study from the platform.

Researchers never see who reported them or what was reported.

What to include in your feedback

We love hearing what you really think, but keep it constructive and kind:

  • Do describe your experience clearly, including specific details that help the researcher understand what happened

  • Do keep your tone constructive, even if the study didn't go well

  • Don't include personal data about other people, such as names or contact details

  • Don't include sensitive information, like health details, ethnicity, religion, political opinions, or sexual orientation, about yourself or anyone else

  • Don't use abusive, threatening, or discriminatory language

Feedback like this may be removed, and repeated abusive behavior can affect your account status under our participant terms. This keeps the platform safe and respectful for everyone.

Why your feedback matters

You're not just taking part in studies, but you're also helping shape what studies look like next. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.
