How to update your country of residence
- Go to your 'Account' page to update your residential address. Here you can change both your country of residence and your general address
- Add and verify your new phone number. Your phone number needs to correspond to your country of residence, with some exceptions. Click here for the full rules of accepted phone numbers
- Update your PayPal to match your details (this can match either your current country of residence or country of birth with the exception of US residents, where your PayPal must be for the US)
✋ If you make changes to your Country of Residence, you may be asked to reverify your details to use Prolific. Please ensure you have ID documents from your new country of residence before confirming
Frequently asked questions
I am trying to update my details but I am receiving a PEC-U-0001 error
This either means that your IP does not match your current country of residence, or that you have not completed all of the above steps yet. Please make sure to complete the above steps in order.
If you continue to see this error afterwards:
• Make sure you're using one of our supported browsers. We support the most recent versions of: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera and Edge. For mobile: Chrome, Android browser, iOS Safari, Firefox Mobile and Opera Mobile)
• Wait until you're back in your country of residence to update your details or cash out
• Turn off any VPNs if you're using one
I moved countries but I don’t have a new phone number, can I still participate?
Your phone number will need to match your country of residence with some exceptions. I am afraid we are unable to make an exception with this. Your account will remain open until you are ready to verify with a new phone number.
I am just abroad temporarily, should I still update my details?
Please only use these instructions if you're moving permanently. If you're going on holiday or abroad temporarily, we recommend you just enjoy your time away and don't change your account details.
Please note, you will be unable to cash out while abroad.
What if I've moved to an unsupported country?
Your country must be supported by Prolific, as well as PayPal and Hyperwallet. If you move to an unsupported country, you won't be able to update your account location or participate in studies.
