Login difficulties typically come down to a browser or device issue. This article walks through the most common causes and how to fix them.
I forgot my password
Reset your password on the Prolific login page by clicking "forgot password?" For full guidance, see I forgot my password.
If your saved password isn't working, try entering your Prolific login details manually rather than relying on autofill. This makes sure incorrect details aren't being entered for you, and lets you update your password manager with the correct information.
I’m on the waitlist and can’t login
While you're on the waitlist, you won't be able to log in, since your account hasn't been created yet. Once a space opens up, you'll get an email invitation to register your account.
I can’t get passed multi-factor authentication (MFA)
If you've lost access to your authenticator app, or don't have your recovery code, see I've lost access to my authenticator app, and I don't have my recovery code for guidance on logging back in.
I've lost access to the email address on my account
Contact Prolific Support using the chat icon in the bottom right of your screen, we're happy to help.
My account is locked and I haven’t received the reset email
Check your junk or spam folder for the email, and confirm your email address on file is correct. If you still can't find it, contact Prolific Support using the chat icon in the bottom right of your screen.
If resetting your password didn't solve the problem, work through the checks below.
Is my browser supported?
We support the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera, and Edge. On mobile, we support Chrome, the Android browser, iOS Safari, Firefox Mobile, and Opera Mobile. Some users have reported issues with the Brave browser, which we've escalated to Brave for investigation. In the meantime, we recommend using one of our supported browsers.
PEC-AS-0005 error and reCAPTCHA
We use Google reCAPTCHA to help prevent bots, a background process that distinguishes human access from automated access. If you've seen this error code, that check couldn't confirm you're human.
If you get stuck on the reCAPTCHA, try the audio version, or try logging in from a different browser or device. Make sure you have turned off content blockers.
Why am I seeing a system clock error?
For security reasons, we need your computer's time and date to be set accurately. Most modern systems handle this automatically, so it usually isn't something to worry about. If you do run into problems, check your system settings and confirm both the date and time zone are correct. You can check this at time.is, you should see the message "Your time is exact!"
Why can I login on one device but not another?
This is usually down to a setting or configuration in your browser or device that's blocking the login. Try these steps to narrow down the cause:
Switch to a different browser.
Check that any saved passwords are correct and current, entering your password manually may help here too.
Make sure your device and browser are current.
Turn off any ad or content blocking extensions you have enabled.
Close any browser extensions you have open.
Check that you don't have a VPN installed.
Check that you don't have private relay enabled. This is an Apple feature, part of iCloud+, that hides your IP address from websites, and it can sometimes interfere with logging in. See Apple's guide to turning off Private Relay if you're not sure whether it's on.
Anti-malware
Malware can interfere with your computer's functionality, including blocking you from passing reCAPTCHA. We recommend scanning your computer with anti-malware software to catch anything that might be blocking your access to Prolific.
Clear cookies/site data
If you've worked through everything above and you're still stuck, clear your browser's cookies and site data, then try again. Sometimes you just need to clear out the cobwebs.
The exact steps vary by browser:
Chrome: see Google's guide to deleting cookies and site data
Firefox: see Mozilla's guide to clearing cookies and site data
Edge: see Microsoft's guide to managing cookies in Edge
